March 15, 2010

We just returned from the Spring Domestic tour to freezing Georgia and not much warmer Arizona. First to Columbus, GA's Fort Benning where Andy graduated from the Army Ranger school. The demonstrations of what these men went through certainly underscored their incredible capabilities. This is the real deal as you can see with the new video below. Andy and Paige will head to Germany in a week. Then on to Atlanta to celebrate Mom's birthday with the Bentley family and my sister Lynn, and meet Kenny's fiance Lindsay. That Peach Tree City continues to be an impressive place. Friendly people and great terrain.
Then to Mesa, Arizona where Rhonda read her latest book to the boys and Joel did some amazing dental work on she and me. Watching a crown be made instantly from a porcelain cube was magic to me but just all in a days work at the Shumway Dental Clinic. Then over to Sun City West to visit my dad and Marilyn and get them up and using Skype video. We'll see how it goes with that. The visits were all too short.
Meanwhile Madi partied at the Manor and continued putting in innumerable hours coaching at the gym.

All the best.

54th Birthday

Really one of more pleasant birthdays I've had in recent memory. Perhaps because it was a Saturday and raining, but also it wound up being very tender.
The day began with the usual diet coke and newspapers, then Drew and Quin sang to me in German from Altendentalsau. Can't wait to see them in a couple of weeks. President Hinckleys funeral was a surprisingly happy occasion as we watched KSL remember his life. We headed downtown and took in a surprisingly good movie, The Bucket List, with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. Afterwards Madi joined us for an excellent meal at Ruth's Chris Steak House. Rhonda and I spent the evening figuring out to blog.
